A Song Creation Model from Custom Lyrics to Section Rewriting
chirp-v5-5 is Suno V5.5's music creation model, capable of generating vocal songs or instrumental music from text inspiration, as well as creating customized works based on lyrics, titles, and styles. It is suited for workflows that require both complete preview tracks and modifications to specific sections: first define the song direction, then replace the chorus or other sections, and choose the delivery method between candidates and complete songs.
Clarify capacity, inputs and outputs, and calling methods before selecting a model.
Creation Modes
Inspiration mode and custom mode; create vocal songs or instrumental music
Inspiration Text
prompt up to 500 characters
Custom Text
Lyrics up to 5000 characters, style up to 1000 characters, and title up to 100 characters
Desired Duration
Custom generation allows an integer from 10—360 seconds, serving as a preferential hint
Creation Controls
weirdness and style_influence range from 0—1; vocal_gender can be f or m
Section Rewriting
replace_section supports two return modes: full_song and candidates
Invocation and Delivery
POST /suno/audios; model=chirp-v5-5; MP3 audio and JSON results
The above input ranges and operating methods apply to calls on this platform; desired duration and vocal preference do not represent hard guarantees for the final output.
Core Capabilities
Learn what chirp-v5-5 can bring to your work.
Organize Lyrics and Style Separately
Custom mode lets you enter lyrics, title, and musical style separately, making it suitable for creators who already have copy or a song structure. You can organize lyrics with section markers such as verse and chorus, and specify genre, instruments, and mood in the style, giving both lyrical content and sonic direction a clear basis instead of cramming them into a single prompt.
Edit Specific Sections Without Remaking the Entire Song
Clip replacement uses the original track's audio_id and start and end times to identify the edit range, then submits the new section lyrics along with the full lyric context. By default, full_song stitches both candidates back into the original track; when you need to preview the local result first, choose candidates, then complete the stitching after selecting a satisfactory clip.
Balance Style Adherence and Experimentation
Custom creation lets you adjust the tendency to match the style through style_influence, adjust experimentation through weirdness, and set male or female vocal preferences. It is suitable for comparing different performance directions around the same lyrics; these settings are creative guidance, and you still need to listen to whether the melody, vocals, and arrangement meet the goal.
Use Cases
Start with specific tasks to find where the model can be useful.
Brand Theme Songs and Event Music
Enter brand keywords, the event theme, and prepared lyrics, then combine them with genre, mood, and a title to generate preview tracks. If the chorus containing the slogan is not suitable enough, you can target that section for rewriting and deliver complete song candidates for team discussion, reducing the repetitive work of remaking the entire song for every revision.
Video and Podcast Music Drafts
Use inspiration mode to describe the visual atmosphere, instruments, and rhythmic direction, and select instrumental music to first obtain a previewable soundtrack draft. For projects with a specific edit length, you can set the desired duration in custom mode and trim based on the actual audio length after downloading, rather than treating the generated result as a precisely timed final product.
Song Drafts and Chorus Iteration
Organize existing lyrics into verses, bridges, and choruses to generate song drafts for discussion. When revising, clearly specify which section needs lyric changes, a style change, or a new interpretation, while preserving the full lyric context; deliver candidate clips or the stitched full track so reviewers can focus on specific differences.
How to choose this model
Choose based on task complexity, input materials, and expected results.
When upgrading from V4, consider the input space
Compared with chirp-v4, chirp-v5-5 expands the custom lyrics limit from 3000 characters to 5000 characters, and the style limit from 200 characters to 1000 characters. This model is more suitable for longer lyrics or detailed arrangement instructions; for short prompt tasks, make a judgment based on actual listening tests rather than inferring quality solely from the version number.
When comparing with V5, consider the work rather than capacity
chirp-v5-5 and chirp-v5 have the same lyrics and style input limits, so there is no need to switch for longer text. Existing V5 projects can retain the same lyrics and style for comparative listening tests; when local rewriting is needed, prioritize evaluating the transition between the segment and the original track, and do not directly apply all of V6's editing capabilities to V5.5.

Usage limitations
Before formal use, understand output quality and the scope of capabilities.
The expected duration is not an exact output instruction, and the finished result may be shorter than the set value; vocal gender is also a preference and is not guaranteed to be strictly followed. When fixed ad length, precise timing, or specified vocal effects are required, allow room for listening tests, editing, and regeneration, and use the returned actual duration as the reference.
Segment candidates do not equal a full song. The content returned by candidates may include a small amount of context, so do not infer candidate length solely from the requested start and end range; before delivery, check replacement boundaries, lyric continuity, and the complete audio to avoid treating unmerged local results as the final track.
The interface includes multiple audio operations, but being able to submit parameters does not mean every operation produces the same effect on V5.5. The audio_format for generation requests uses mp3; WAV, MIDI, and other formats require the corresponding processing workflow and cannot be obtained directly by changing this field, nor does this mean the corresponding native format is available during generation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about using chirp-v5-5.
Should chirp-v5-5 use inspiration mode or custom mode?
When you only have a theme and mood, submitting a prompt with custom=false is more direct; when you already have lyrics or need a specific title or genre, use custom=true to submit lyric, title, and style separately. If no lyrics are provided in custom mode, you can use lyric_prompt to provide direction for lyric creation.
Can V5.5 change only the chorus and return the full song?
You can use replace_section, providing the original audio_id, replacement start and end times, new section lyrics, and the full lyrics context. replace_section_result_mode defaults to full_song, which returns two separately assembled complete songs; choosing candidates instead first provides unassembled segment candidates.
Does setting duration to 360 guarantee a six-minute generation?
No. duration is the desired length for custom generation and accepts integers from 10—360, but the model may generate a shorter work. Read the actual duration in the result and listen to whether the ending is complete; if you need a fixed playback length, edit it or arrange further creation afterward.
What should I note when remastering an existing song with V5.5?
When using the remaster workflow, V5 and V5.5 require variation_category, with options high, normal, or subtle. Remastering and partial lyric replacement are different tasks; if the goal is to modify lyrics in a section, choose replace_section rather than treating remastering as lyric editing.
How do I receive V5.5 generation results?
Submit model=chirp-v5-5 to POST /suno/audios. Set async=true to first obtain a task_id, then query the task; you can also set callback_url to receive results. After completion, check the status based on state, and save the audio_url, song ID, and actual duration for later listening and editing.
